Watch the trailer for ‘Outlander’ star’s new 1860s true crime series ‘Manhunt’
Apple TV+ has unveiled a trailer for Manhunt!
Created by Fargo writer and producer Monica Beletsky, the upcoming historical true crime drama stars English actor Tobias Menzies, who you’ll recognise from Outlander , Game of Thrones, and The Crown.
Manhunt is a conspiracy thriller about one of the best known but least understood crimes in history; the astonishing story of the hunt for John Wilkes Booth in the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.

The trailer has got fans online excited already, with comments like: “This looks fantastic! Cast is stellar!”
Some viewers aren’t happy with the murky cinematography, however, noting that it’s “too dark to see what the heck is happening – even with brightness on full.”
“Fortunately, I already know what happens in this story,” they wrote.
We’ve got to say we agree and this is one of our pet hates with TV dramas right now!
The seven-part limited series is based on James Swanson’s best-selling book, Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer.
“This is one of my favorite books ever,” wrote one reader on YouTube. “I’ve read it twice. So excited for this!”
Alongside Tobias Menzies as Lincoln’s war secretary and friend, Edwin Stanton – who was almost driven to madness by his need to track down John Wilkes Booth and to fulfil Lincoln’s legacy – the cast also includes Anthony Boyle (Tetris), Lovie Simone (Greenleaf), Will Harrison (Daisy Jones & The Six), Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why), Damian O’Hare (Hatfields & McCoys), Glenn Morshower (The Resident), Patton Oswalt (A.P. Bio), Matt Walsh (Veep) and Hamish Linklater (The Big Short).
When’s the release date?
Manhunt will launch on Apple TV+ around the world on Friday 15 March 2024 with its first two episodes.
The remaining five episodes will then be made available to stream weekly every Friday.
James Swanson’s book Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer is available on Amazon.
