Watch epic trailer for new World War II drama series ‘Masters of the Air’

We’re even more excited for Masters of the Air after seeing the latest trailer!

Launching on Apple TV+ very soon, the action-packed new period drama comes from the makers of Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

The nine-episode limited series is based on Donald L. Miller‘s book and tells the true story of an American bomber group in the Second World War.

Here’s the epic new trailer:

“So hyped on this,” commented a YouTube user. “My grandad was a B-17 tail gunner. Flew over on D-Day, was shot down twice and survived. Thank you for telling their story.”

Another wrote that it “looks really stunning,” saying: “It feels like a movie, the cinematography looks awesome and the scope is so big. I can’t wait to watch this series.”

However, some Band of Brothers fans were worried that this new series looks a bit too polished, saying: “I hope they haven’t abandoned the gritty realism and harsh tone that in my book is what made Band of Brothers and The Pacific the timeless classics that they are.”

We’ll find out next month!

Joining the show’s American cast members – including Austin Butler from Elvis – are lots of familiar British and Irish faces.

Look out for Barry Keoghan (Saltburn), Ncuti Gatwa (Doctor Who), Callum Turner (Fantastic Beasts), and James Murray (The Crown).

When’s the release date?

The first two instalments will premiere around the world on Apple’s streaming service Apple TV+ on Friday 26 January 2024.

New episodes of Masters of the Air are set to follow each week until Friday 15 March.

Take a look at last month’s first teaser trailer for the show here:

Masters of the Air follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the “Bloody Hundredth”) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany and grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air,” the official synopsis tells us.

“Portraying the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich, is at the heart of Masters of the Air.

“Some were shot down and captured; some were wounded or killed. And some were lucky enough to make it home. Regardless of individual fate, a toll was exacted on them all.”

The series reunites award-winning Band of Brothers producers Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman for the time time since they made The Pacific together 13 years ago.

Masters of the Air is a salute to the brave men of the 8th Air Force, who, through their courage and brotherhood, helped defeat Nazi Germany in World War II,” promises Goetzman.
