Olivia Colman is back on board for The Night Manager 2

Olivia Colman has been confirmed as returning for the second series of The Night Manager, reprising her role as intelligence officer Angela Burr.  As previously announced in April, the series has been renewed for two more seasons, with lead actor Tom Hiddleston returning as hotel night manager Jonathan Pine. The first series was a great critical and commercial success globally, winning multiple awards, and attracting over 10 million viewers.

Who else is in the cast?

Variety magazine has confirmed that Colman will be joined by Alistair Petrie (Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?) as Alexander “Sandy” Langbourne; Douglas Hodge (Middlemarch) as Rex Mayhew; Michael Nardone (Rome) as Frisky; and Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place) as Danny Roper.

Other previously confirmed cast members include Diego Calvas, Indira Varma, Paul Chahidi and Hayley Squires.

What is it about?

The Night Manager is inspired by the characters in John le Carré’s best-selling novel of the same name. A former British soldier and luxury hotel night manager, Jonathan Pine is recruited by British intelligence to infiltrate the inner circle of an international arms dealer, Richard Roper and help take him down. Series 2 will take place 8 years after the explosive events of the first series. Details of the plot are still under wraps for the moment but the return of some key members of Roper’s circle would suggest that his story is not over yet

Tom Hiddleston told Deadline magazine that the long time lapse between the production of the two seasons is because they “took the time to try and get the story right”.

“Principally, [author] John le Carré seemed so happy with our adaptation the first time and that was such a relief,” he told Deadline. “So if we were to go again we needed to find the right story.”

Who is behind it?

The new series will be written by David Farr and the episodes directed by Georgi Banks-Davies.  Stephen Garrett will return as head of production while Hugh Laurie will act as executive producer.

Series one of The Night Manager is available to watch on BBC iPlayer in the UK and on Prime Video globally.
