‘Poldark’ cast are saying their goodbyes as they finish filming final season
It looks like filming is nearly complete on the last ever episodes of Poldark.
The Cornish period drama series launched in March 2015 and will return later this year.
A recent trailer previewing some of the BBC’s 2019 drama highlights featured the first look at Season 5.
Cast members Gabriella Wilde and Beatie Edney have been bidding their farewells over Instagram.
Wilde, who plays Doctor Enys’ wife, Caroline, posted a photo of herself with Edney, who plays maid Prudie, wishing her a “happy last day.”
Beatie later posted a sweet video, featuring what appears to be a gift to mark the end of the shoot.
Wilde herself filmed her final scenes in November, commenting at the time: “I cant believe it’s been 4 years and now I am leaving having shot my last scene here for @official_poldark. It’s been wet and wonderful. I have loved working here and will miss this beautiful part of the country.”
Showrunner Debbie Horsfield has confirmed that the new episodes will, for the first time, not be based on the series of historical novels by Winston Graham.
Instead, Season 5 will be set during the 10 year time gap that occurs between the seventh book, The Angry Tide, and the eighth, The Stranger from the Sea.
It was announced last September that the fifth season of Poldark would be the show’s last.
However, fans should take some solace in comments from producer Karen Thrussell.
She has revealed that the series may return one day, teasing: “Who knows what the future may bring.”
Season 5 will air in the UK on BBC One this summer and is expected to air in the USA this autumn on Masterpiece on PBS.
The first four seasons of Poldark are available on DVD on Amazon.
