‘Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes’ reveals start date and first look
Robson Green returns to our screens soon with his brand new factual series!
Best known for his roles in Grantchester, Soldier Soldier, and Wire in the Blood, the 57-year-old Northumberland-born actor is back with “the perfect way to chase away the winter blues.”
The star has been busy filming Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes in some of the UK’s most stunning scenery between shooting seasons of Grantchester.
Originally titled Robson Green’s Dirty Weekends, then called Robson Green’s Weekends Away, the show finds Green taking the roads less travelled and appreciating a slower pace of life in the North-East of England.
He’ll be joined by his family and some famous friends, including Grantchester co-star Tom Brittney, who plays vicar Will in ITV’s hit crime drama.
Robson Green commented: “I’m thrilled to be starring in and co-producing this fantastic new series for BBC Two. The North-East holds a special place in my heart and I’m excited to showcase the best it has to offer.
“We are strongly committed to supporting the incredible local talent in this beautiful region, and creating this programme gave us the opportunity to do both.”
When’s the release date?
Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes will premiere in the UK at 6.30pm on Monday 23rd January 2023 on BBC Two.
New episodes will then air daily on weekdays, and will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
The official synopsis reads: “Taking viewers into the heart of the North-East, the programme will showcase the region’s natural beauty and the important role it plays in relieving stress and supporting our mental health.
“Across the series we will see Robson journey on an old steam train, spend a night in a hammock, sketch with local artists, and cycle along the coast and castle route, which stretches from Newcastle to Edinburgh.
“Throughout the series, Robson and his friends explore the importance of slowing down, leaving the noise of our cities, creating memories, and relaxing.”
Guests on the series will include former England footballer Jill Scott, Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies, presenter Steph McGovern, podcaster Rosie Ramsey, former footballer Les Ferdinand, and more.
BBC Commissioning Editor, Helen Munson, said: “Robson is a fantastic ambassador for the North-East and is a firm-favourite with our audiences.”
Robson Green recently revealed that the next season of Grantchester has now finished filming.
Will and Geordie will find themselves in “unfamiliar, emotional waters” when Season 8 airs on ITV and PBS in 2023.
Grantchester is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
