‘Call the Midwife’ return date revealed for Season 12
It’s been announced when the new season of Call the Midwife starts!
The BBC’s long-running period drama series about a group of nurse midwives in the East End of London celebrated a decade on air earlier this year.
If you’ve been missing cosy evenings of Call the Midwife since Season 11’s emotional finale, you’ll be pleased to hear that the show is back with a Christmas special later this month.
Following that feature-length festive episode, we’re excited to reveal that fans will be getting the next eight-part season even sooner than we expected.
When’s the release date for Season 12?
The show’s official Facebook page confirmed today that Season 12 will premiere in the UK on New Year’s Day!
The Call the Midwife team wrote on Facebook: “We’re delighted to tell you that the BBC have announced the premiere date for our new series… and it begins just ONE WEEK after our forthcoming Christmas Special – airing on 1st January! ❤️❤️❤️👶🚲📺🎥🙌”
They added: “We are so pleased that you won’t have long to wait for our new stories, and can jump straight into 1968!!”
Season 12’s opening episode will air at 8pm on Sunday 1st January on BBC One.
Previous seasons have usually begun in mid-January.
The subsequent seven episodes will arrive weekly on Sunday nights through January and February, streaming on BBC iPlayer after broadcast.
In the meantime, you can catch up on all 96 previous episodes on BBC iPlayer right now.
Fans were overjoyed at the news, with comments on Facebook saying “Hallelujah something decent to watch” and “proper Sunday night telly again.”
We don’t know much about the upcoming episodes, apart from they’ll be set in 1968 and we could see some returning characters from the past!
PBS will be showing Season 12 in the US in early 2023.
We’ll let you know the American premiere date as soon as we find out!
As part of the show’s 10th anniversary celebrations, Call the Midwife recently launched an official podcast.
Fans can also revisit the past decade of Call the Midwife with this lovely behind-the-scenes book by Dr Turner actor Stephen McGann.
Season 11 is available on DVD on Amazon.
