‘Seize Them!’ first look: Aimee Lou Wood stars in new medieval comedy movie
The first photo from historical comedy Seize Them! has been released.
Set in Britain during the Dark Ages, the upcoming movie stars Aimee Lou Wood (Living) as an egotistical queen who ends up on the run after she’s toppled from the throne.
Seize Them! boasts a brilliant line-up of female British comedy actors, featuring Nicola Coughlan of Bridgerton and Derry Girls fame, Ghosts star Lolly Adefope, and Jessica Hynes from Up the Women.
They’re joined by Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead), Paul Kaye (After Life), Nitin Ganatra (EastEnders), and comedian James Acaster.
The cast also includes John Macmillan (House of the Dragon), Murray McArthur (Game of Thrones), Victoria Broom (Gangs of London), Matthew Cottle (Outlander), and Ben Ashenden (1899).
Seize Them! began filming in the UK across Kent and Wales last March.
When’s the release date?
An exact release date for Seize Them! hasn’t yet been announced, but it’s expected to arrive in cinemas in the second half of 2023.
In the meantime, studio Entertainment Film has unveiled a sneak peek at Aimee Lou Wood in costume as Queen Dagan here:
From a script by Andy Riley, who wrote 2021’s very fun kids’ movie Ron’s Gone Wrong, the film is being made by the producers of the Absolutely Fabulous movie and Lily James’s rom-com Yesterday.
What’s it about?
The official synopsis for Seize Them! tells us that that Queen Dagan (Wood) is toppled by a revolution led by Humble Joan (Coughlan).
The Queen becomes a fugitive in her own land, with a hefty bounty on her head. With the help of Shulmay (Adefope), a former servant with a lot of secrets, and Bobik (Frost), “a shit-shoveller who wants more out of life,” Queen Dagan must face hardship and danger as she embarks on a voyage to win back her throne.
Producer Damian Jones commented last year: “We are very excited to be working with the funniest young actresses around today in Aimee, Lolly and Nicola as well as the epic Nick Frost and Jess Hynes.”
Aimee Lou Wood was recently nominated for the Rising Star Award at the BAFTAs, following her roles in Sex Education and Living.

Meanwhile, her Seize Them! co-star Nicola Coughlan will also be back on Netflix this summer in the third season of Bridgerton.
