‘Elementary’ star joins ‘The Crown’ Season 5 in a major new role

Another big name has been confirmed for the next season of The Crown!

Netflix’s award-winning period drama series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom launched in 2016.

Production on the show is set to resume this month in England.

It’s believed that, as with the previous two seasons, both Season 5 and Season 6 will be filmed back to back as an epic continuous shoot.

The award-winning fourth season premiered last November, with the story reaching 1990.

Following Gillian Anderson’s acclaimed portrayal of Margaret Thatcher, a new decade for The Crown will welcome a new Prime Minister.

Sir John Major succeeded Margaret Thatcher as leader of the Conservative government.

He was the UK prime minister from 1990 to 1997, when he was replaced as PM by Labour leader Tony Blair.

The official The Crown account on Twitter has revealed that British star Jonny Lee Miller will be taking on the role of Major.

The 48-year-old actor shot to fame in 1996’s Trainspotting movie.

The entire cast of The Crown is being replaced once again next season.

The news of Miller’s casting follows confirmation of Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter) as Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes) as Prince Phillip, Lesley Manville (World on Fire) as Princess Margaret, and Elizabeth Debicki (The Night Manager) as Princess Diana.

While it’s still not been officially announced, it’s widely understood that Dominic West (The Pursuit of Love) will be playing the new Prince Charles.

Jonny Lee Miller is best known for playing a modern-day Sherlock Holmes in seven seasons of CBS’s hit crime drama Elementary.

Season 5 will cover what is seen as the Royals’ most difficult decade in living memory, including a number of marital splits and scandals, the fire at Windsor Castle, and Princess Diana’s death in 1997.

The new episodes look set to arrive on Netflix in November or December 2022.

The show’s sixth and final season will then premiere in late 2023.

It’s expected that Season 6 will conclude the Royals’ story in the mid-2000s.

The Crown is available on DVD on Amazon.
