‘The Crown’ Season 5’s new Prince Charles actor revealed

It’s finally been revealed who’ll be taking over the role of Prince Charles in The Crown.

Netflix’s award-winning period drama series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom has been running since November 2016.

The award-winning fourth season premiered last November, and storylines were particularly focused on the marriage of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

The Crown is set to resume production this July in England, with Season 5 and Season 6 expected to be shoot back to back.

The entire cast is being replaced once again, and we now who’ll be playing the older Charles and Di.

It was confirmed by Netflix last summer than Elizabeth Debicki had been cast as the new Princess Diana.

Known for her roles in The Night ManagerEverest, and Tenet, the 30-year-old Australian actress will take over the role from Emma Corrin.

Debicki previously commented: “Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many.”

She added: “It is my privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one.”

Rumours began swirling last autumn about who would be replacing The Durrells star Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles.

Dominic West’s name was repeatedly mentioned, but no official announcement was made.

Meanwhile, the casting of Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter) as Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes) as Prince Phillip, and Lesley Manville (World on Fire) as Princess Margaret was all slowly confirmed by Netflix.

Well, it looks like Josh O’Connor himself has now finally verified the news!

The former Prince Charles actor told GQ Hype: “Playing that character has brought me a lot of joy. But it’s lovely to come away and go, ‘Great. Now hand it over to Dominic West’… But if Dominic West came to me asking me for advice, I’d laugh him off. I’d be like, ‘Dom! You’re Dominic West!'”

West shot to fame in The Wire, and most recently starred in the BBC’s new Pursuit of Love adaptation.

The 51-year-old English actor has also appeared in Les Miserables, Colette, and Chicago.

Season 5 will premiere in November or December 2022, exclusively on Netflix.

The show’s sixth and final season will most likely follow in late 2023.

It’s expected that Season 6 will take the story up to the mid-2000s, however, rather than catching up with the present day.

The Crown creator Peter Morgan previously explained: “I feel uncomfortable writing about events within a certain time period.”

He said: “I think there’s a certain amount of time within which, if you write about it, what you do instantly becomes journalistic. Because it’s too close to the moment.”

The Crown is available on DVD on Amazon.
