‘The Lost King’ true story explained by the real Philippa Langley – watch!

The Lost King is out very soon and it tells an incredible true story.

The upcoming British movie tells the remarkable story of Philippa Langley, the ‘ordinary’ woman who overcame every obstacle to track down the final resting place of King Richard III – the last English king to die in battle – and give him an honourable burial.

Coinciding with the 10th Anniversary of the discovery of Richard III’s remains, The Lost King will be released in UK cinemas on Friday 7th October.

Watch the trailer:

The movie’s official synopsis reads: “In 2012, having been lost for over 500 years, the remains of King Richard III were discovered beneath a carpark in Leicester.

“The search had been orchestrated by an amateur historian, Philippa Langley, whose unrelenting research had been met with incomprehension by her friends and family and with scepticism by experts and academics.

The Lost King is the life-affirming true story of a woman who refused to be ignored and who took on the country’s most eminent historians, forcing them to think again about one of the most controversial kings in England’s history.”

With the film arriving in cinemas next week, we’ve got a great video here featuring the real Philippa Langley, in which she discusses how she tracked down Richard III’s remains:

Langley reflected on her 10-year journey: “I think to be talked of as being an inspiration to others is heartening, because I would like that.”

She added: “But I think particularly for the young, if I can be inspiration to them to not give up on a dream of theirs, and to fight for what they believe in, then it’s been worth it.”

We’ve got another fun video here, looking at how the movie’s fantasy element brings the story to life, while not losing track of the fact this is a true story:

Co-writer Jeff Pope (Philomena) explains: “The most important thing about this is that everything that you see really happened. It’s a true story, but it’s okay to have some fun and laugh along the way.”

Leading the cast of The Lost King is Golden Globe winning actress Sally Hawkins, best known for The Shape of Water and the Paddington movies.

She’s playing Philippa Langley, alongside Steve Coogan (Stan & Ollie) as her husband, John Langley, and Harry Lloyd (The Theory of EverythingThe Iron Lady) as Richard III.
