It’s been announced when the new Railway Children sequel is pulling into cinemas in the US.
Over 50 years since the original classic British family film, The Railway Children Return was a hit in the UK when it came out earlier this summer.
The movie is set in 1944, with a new group of children being evacuated to a Yorkshire village during the Second World War.
Jenny Agutter, best known these days for her role as Sister Julienne in the BBC’s Call the Midwife, has reprised her 1970 role as Roberta ‘Bobbie’ Waterbury in the follow-up.

She’s joined by Sheridan Smith (Cilla) as Bobbie’s daughter, alongside Tom Courtenay (45 Years) and John Bradley (Game of Thrones), with a cast of newcomers playing the children.
The Railways Children Return was released in cinemas in the UK in July.
Audiences overseas won’t have to wait too much longer now, as we can now confirm that The Railway Children Return will be out in New Zealand on Thursday 25th August, then in Australia on Thursday 15th September.
American audiences will finally be able to see it in US theatres from Friday 23rd September.
Watch a clip:
Radio Times called The Railway Children Return “a charming update on a beloved classic,” saying the film “contains more than enough heart, humour, and spirited performances from its young cast to prove a charming update on the original.”
What to Watch praised “the wholesome values and the beauty of the Yorkshire landscape,” while Variety warned “this good-natured, resolutely old-fashioned film will likely make any adults who grew up on Jeffries’ original a little misty-eyed.”
Jenny Agutter is currently filming the twelfth season of Call the Midwife, ahead of its arrival in 2023.
