‘White Bird’ trailer: Gillian Anderson and Helen Mirren star in new WW2 drama

The first trailer has been released for White Bird: A Wonder Story.

A companion to 2017’s inspiring drama Wonder, the upcoming movie is based on R.J. Palacio’s book.

White Bird is set in France during the Second World War.

We’re told that “like Wonder before it, is an emotional story about the ways that even in the most harrowing circumstances, empathy for others can make every difference in the world.”

Alongside young stars Ariella Glaser, Orlando Schwerdt, Bryce Gheisar are familiar faces Gillian Anderson (The Crown) and Helen Mirren (The Queen).

White Bird: A Wonder Story was shot in the Czech Republic last year by filmmaker Marc Forster, who previously directed Finding Neverland and Christopher Robin.

The official synopsis reads: “In White Bird: A Wonder Story, kindness even has the power to save lives, as Wonder‘s Julian Albans (Bryce Gheisar), Auggie’s antagonising classmate who left Beecher Prep, is visited by his Grandmère (Helen Mirren) from Paris and is transformed by her remarkable and unforgettable story of compassion and courage.

“As a girl in Nazi-occupied France, the young Grandmère goes into hiding with the help of a schoolmate, a young man who risks everything to give her the chance to survive.

“Together, they find beauty and love in the secret world of their own creation.”

White Bird: A Wonder Story will be released in cinemas on Friday 14th October.

R.J. Palacio’s Sydney Taylor Book Award-winning graphic novel is described as “a story of the power of kindness and unrelenting courage in a time of war.”

Wonder is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
