‘Wicked Little Letters’ trailer: Olivia Colman returns with new comedy set in 1920s
We’ve got another trailer for Wicked Little Letters!
Set in an English seaside town in the 1920s, the upcoming movie is based on a stranger than fiction true story.
The “riotous mystery comedy” reunites Olivia Colman (The Crown) with Irish actress Jessie Buckley.
The pair previously starred together in Netflix’s Oscar-nominated 2021 film The Lost Daughter, and you might also recognise Buckley from The Last Post, Misbehaviour, and War & Peace.
Watch the brand new trailer for Wicked Little Letters here:
“Fiery Rose Gooding (Buckley) has little in common with the pious Edith Swan (Colman) aside from them being neighbours in the seaside town of Littlehampton in the 1920s,” reveals the official synopsis.
“But one day, Edith and others in the town start receiving scandalous letters written with foul language as eccentric as it is obscene, and the finger of suspicion immediately falls on Rose.
“As Rose stands to lose her freedom and the custody of her daughter, and outrageous letters continue to blight the town, police officer Gladys Moss begins to suspect something is amiss.
“Together with a group of resourceful women, Gladys endeavours to solve the mystery, liberate Rose, and catch the real culprit…”
Olivia Colman and and Jessie Buckley are joined in the cast by Joanna Scanlan (The Larkins), Timothy Spall (Mr Turner), Hugh Skinner (Fleabag), Malachi Kirby (Small Axe), Gemma Jones (Gentleman Jack), Lolly Adefope (Ghosts), Eileen Atkins (The Crown), Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts), and Alisha Weir (Matilda).
When’s the release date?
Wicked Little Letters will be out in UK and Irish cinemas on Friday 23 February 2024, then in Europe, Australia and New Zealand in March 2024.
We’ve not yet had US release details confirmed, but hopefully American viewers will be able to see it later this year.
Take a look at the movie’s (very sweary!) first teaser here:
Colman and and the film’s co-producer Ed Sinclair previously teased that Wicked Little Letters is “as hilarious as it is unexpected with beautifully and affectionately drawn characters across the board.”
“Jonny Sweet’s script had us hooked from page one,” they added.
While we wait for the movie’s release, you can still catch Olivia Colman in cinemas right now appearing in the absolutely wonderful Wonka, and she’ll also be in the third Paddington film next Christmas!
Wonka is available to pre-order on DVD on Amazon.
