BBC has acquired the reboot of the Inspector Lynley mysteries “Lynley”from Britbox

The BBC has recently acquired the new reboot of the Inspector Lynley series, based on the hit crime novels by author Elizabeth George. The new four-part reimagining will see Sanditon and Beecham House star Leo Suter take over the role of Inspector Lynley, opposite Sofia Barclay (Ted Lasso) as DS Barbara Havers.

The series was already brought to the small screen back in 2001: The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, starring Nathaniel Parker and Sharon Small, ran for six series on BBC in the UK and PBS in the USA. Since the original series was made, author Elizabeth George has continued to write and has published a total of 21 novels to date, so the new series will have a lot of fresh mystery material to work with.

Who is in the cast?

The supporting cast includes Daniel Mays (Line of Duty), as DCI Brian Nies, Lynley’s antagonistic boss; Niamh Walsh (The English Game) as Helen Clyde, Lynley’s for classmate and romantic interest; Michael Workeye as Tony Bekele; and Joshua Sher as Dr. Simon St. James.

Author Elizabeth George said: “I’m thrilled to see Thomas Lynley and Barbara Havers come to television again, especially through the participation of the BBC and Britbox and the production expertise of Playground. Watching my characters brought to life on television is a real celebration.”

Here is the BBC synopsis of the series:

Tommy Lynley is a brilliant police detective but an outsider in the force – simply by virtue of his aristocratic upbringing. He is paired with Barbara Havers, a sergeant with a maverick attitude and a working-class background. With seemingly nothing in common and against all odds, the mismatched duo of Lynley and Havers become a formidable team, bonded by their desire to see justice done.

Lynley was created and written by Steve Thompson (Vienna Blood), Ed Bazalgette (The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die) is the lead director with Suzanne McAuley (Magpie Murders, Love/Hate) acting series producer.

When can we watch it?

The series is currently in production in Ireland and is expected to air on our screens in 2025.
