Next year’s season of ‘Call the Midwife’ has finished filming!

Production has wrapped on the eleventh season of Call the Midwife.

BBC One’s hit period drama series about a group of nurse midwives in the East End of London returned to UK screens earlier this year, and is currently airing on Sunday nights on PBS.

Airing a bit later in the year than normal after filming delays in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Season 10 only finished shooting this February.

This meant that the cast and crew of Call the Midwife only had a few weeks off before getting ready to film 2022’s season!

Filming on Season 11 began in England this Spring.

The show’s official Facebook page wrote at the time: “Yes, the ink was barely dry on our glowing reviews for the premiere of series 10 at the weekend, when we observed our actors and crew gathering once again in their Christmas finery under warm spring sunshine!”

They added: “[The cast] are SO pleased to be back – and all really wanted to express their thanks to you for your wonderful and continued support for our drama. THANK YOU!!”

It was announced on Friday that the new season has now completed filming!

The team revealed: “Ladies and gentlemen… IT’S A WRAP ON SERIES 11!!! 🍾🎉🎊🎬🎥👶🍼🚲 Filming officially completed in the last hour on our latest Call the Midwife series!”

They shared two behind-the-scenes photos, saying: “As is traditional, our cast celebrated by posing with the clapperboard… though it’s usually customary to get out of bed first!!!”

Call the Midwife will return next month with its traditional feature-length special on Christmas Day.

Season 11 is expected to premiere in January 2022 on BBC One in the UK, then in the US next Spring on PBS.

There was more good news for fans in April when the BBC officially confirmed that Call the Midwife will remain on air until at least 2024!

The three upcoming seasons will each consist of eight one-hour episodes, plus a feature-length Christmas special, taking the Poplar residents up to 1969.

Writer and creator Heidi Thomas shared her excitement:  “It’s an incredible privilege to be able to look back on a decade of Call the Midwife, and yet know that our journey is still very far from over. We are thrilled to be going on for a few more years!”

Fans can celebrate the tenth anniversary of Call the Midwife with a wonderful new book compiled by Dr Turner actor Stephen McGann.
