‘Grantchester’ returning cast confirmed: Who’s back in Season 7?

Grantchester has been renewed for a seventh season and now we know which characters will be back.

Season 6 hasn’t even premiered yet, but the makers of Grantchester are already busy filming Season 7!

Based on the novels by James Runcie, ITV’s popular ’50s crime drama series launched in 2014, with a fifth season airing last year.

Following delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, 2021’s episodes of Grantchester are set to air in the UK later this summer on ITV.

PBS recently announced the premiere date for American viewers, and it’s not too long a wait for once.

The seventh season of Grantchester returns to the Cambridgeshire village during the long hot summer of 1959, with wedding season in full swing.

We’re told that “as the Reverend Will Davenport unites happy couples in holy matrimony, Detective Inspector Geordie Keating is busy as ever investigating a range of local murder cases.”

The official synopsis reads: “With a new decade just around the corner, the question of what the future holds is on everyone’s minds, not least Will’s, but before the 50s roll over into the swinging sixties, there are some crimes to solve and some life-changing decisions to be made that might change life in Grantchester forever.”

Outlander actor Tom Brittney is returning as clergyman Will Davenport, alongside Robson Green (Soldier Soldier) as DI Geordie Keating.

Other familiar faces will include Tessa Peake-Jones as Mrs. Chapman, Al Weaver as Leonard Finch, Kacey Ainsworth as Cathy Keating, Oliver Dimsdale as Daniel Marlowe, Nick Brimble as Jack Chapman, Melissa Johns as Miss Scott, and Bradley Hall as Larry Peters.

Having taken over from original star James Norton in Season 4, Brittney’s Will Davenport will have featured in more episodes of Grantchester than Sidney Chambers by halfway through Season 7!

Tom Brittney is making his Grantchester directorial debut with the third episode of Season 7, stepping behind the camera for the first time.

The 30-year-old actor joked: “It’s been a life ambition of mine and I can’t wait for the audience to see it (and also I can finally order Robson about!).”

Season 7 is expected to air in 2022 on ITV in the UK, then on PBS in the US.

Grantchester is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
