‘Grantchester’ Season 8 premiere date on PBS confirmed
PBS has revealed when Grantchester will return in the US!
Based on the novels by James Runcie, ITV’s popular 1950s crime drama series began shooting its eighth season in England last summer.
Almost all of our favourite characters will be back in the six brand new episodes.
“It’s so good to be back on Grantchester – a series that just gets better with age,” commented original star Robson Green.
“Everyone involved is at the top of their game and this incredibly charming, likeable, dark and edgy show is an absolute privilege to be part of,” the Geordie actor added.
The official synopsis for Season 8 reveals: “Will is the happiest he’s ever been, but his world will be rocked by a terrible accident. He’s always preached the word of a compassionate God – but how can he now, when his despair leads him on a dangerous downward spiral?
“Geordie has found a new contentment in his relationship with Cathy, but when they are both confronted with shocking announcements at work their happiness is threatened.
“As Mrs. C, Leonard, Jack and Daniel rally around, both Will and Geordie find themselves in unfamiliar, emotional waters and murder is always around the corner.”
The six new mysteries “will range from Speedway to spies, exploring the lives of invisible women and the very visible problems caused by Leonard’s new vocation which may, once again, find him battling the law.”
When’s the US release date for Season 8?
American fans can see the new season of Grantchester this summer on PBS as part of their Masterpiece Mystery strand.
Season 8 is set to launch at 9pm ET on Sunday 9th July, with episodes airing through into August.
Grantchester will be part of a triple-bill line-up of crime dramas for Masterpiece on Sunday nights, with Line of Duty star Adrian Dunbar’s new detective series Ridley airing beforehand at 8pm ET, and police series DI Ray following at 10pm ET.
Here’s a (not hugely exciting, we’ll admit!) first look from the folks at Masterpiece:
Season 8 was due to premiere in the UK last month, but the launch date has been pushed back.
We expect ITV will announce the new date very soon.
Also coming up on PBS this summer is the final season of Endeavour!
The Inspector Morse prequel’s last ever episode aired in the UK earlier this year, prompting an emotional reaction from British viewers.
Grantchester is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
