PBS will air ‘Endeavour’ documentary ‘Morse and the Last Endeavour’ in June
Endeavour fans in the US can look forward to a new documentary ahead of the show’s return.
ITV’s spin-off series first introduced Shaun Evans as the young Endeavour Morse in 2012, celebrating the 25th anniversary of Inspector Morse.
After eleven years and nine seasons, Endeavour came to an end in the UK last month, with an emotional reaction from fans.
As usual American viewers are having to wait for the show’s new season to arrive on PBS, but the final episodes aren’t too far away now.
To make the waiting a bit more bearable, we’re happy to report that PBS will be airing a one-off documentary the week before Season 9 begins.
Titled Morse and the Last Endeavour, the special program marks the end of the epic tale of Inspector Morse, the iconic Oxford detective celebrated the world over.
The official synopsis reads: “From the original Inspector Morse (1987-2000), through to the spin off Lewis in (2006-2015) and after ten years, the series Endeavour, which explores the detective’s back story in 1960s Britain, the story of Inspector Morse is finally coming to an end.”
When is it on?
Morse and the Last Endeavour will premiere on Masterpiece on PBS at 9/8c on Sunday 11th June.
The documentary has already been shown in the UK, airing on the night of the last ever episode following the show’s final moments.
It does seem a little strange that PBS has chosen to broadcast Morse and the Last Endeavour before the show’s finale has aired rather than afterwards, and to be honest we suggest waiting until after you’ve seen Season 9 before watching it.
The final season of Endeavour premieres at 9/8c on Sunday 18th June on Masterpiece on PBS, with the last ever episode set for Sunday 2nd July.
The official synopsis reads: “It’s spring of 1972, and Morse has returned to Castle Gate after taking time away in an effort to manage his troubled relationship with alcohol.
“But changes coming to CID and an increasing intimacy in Joan and Strange’s relationship promise upheavals both personal and professional for Morse.
“From the cobbled streets of Oxford to the criminal underworld of London, mysteries and secrets unfold while unsettling ties to an old case set Morse and Thursday on a course that will propel them to the series’ end.”
Morse and the Last Endeavour explores the huge global appeal of this Oxford universe of crime, featuring interviews with all the main cast members, including original Morse star Kevin Whately.
Narrated by Barbara Flynn, the documentary also takes a behind the scenes look at filming the final season of Endeavour, as the writers tie together over six decades of interconnecting plots.
If you missed Morse and the Last Endeavour in the UK in March, it’s now streaming on ITVX over here, alongside every Endeavour episode!
