‘Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes’ renewed for Season 2
We’ve got brilliant news if you’ve enjoyed Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes!
Following the great response to its first season earlier this year, it’s been confirmed that the series will be returning with more episodes.
BBC Two’s gorgeously calming daytime show sees Northumberland-born actor Robson Green taking the roads less travelled and appreciating a gentler pace of life around the North-East of England.
Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes debuted in January, with the Grantchester star and his friends embracing the importance of slowing down, leaving the noise of our cities, creating memories, and relaxing.
Highlights in Season 1 includes Robson’s gleeful journey on an old steam train with Grantchester co-star Tom Brittney, spending a night in a hammock, sketching with local artists, and cycling along the coast and castle route, which stretches from Newcastle to Edinburgh.
A second season of Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes was officially announced today at the Creative Cities convention in Newcastle.
The new run will once again comprise fifteen 30-minute episodes.
“I am delighted that my Weekend Escapes is coming back for a second series,” said Robson Green.
“The response from the first, and especially up in the North East was fantastic. It is so important to know what’s on your doorstep and explore your local area in times when you could be feeling burnt out, so I’m excited to take viewers around the North East again with my family and celeb friends – I can’t wait!”
“Not only do I get to showcase a region I adore and its people, I’m also able to showcase the talent that exists in the area both in-front of and behind the lens,” he added. “We also provide a training ground for those who aspire to work within this wonderful industry.”
We’re told that Robson will again be “taking the roads less travelled around his beloved North East, journeying to many of the hidden gems that reside within the region as well as venturing into the Lakes and the Scottish Borders.”
Excursions will include traveling the North and South Tyne valley along with the Pennine Way, journeying through the charismatic County of Cumbria to see the jaw dropping vistas of the Lake District, more amazing outdoor adventures in the beautiful Border county.
“Joined by family, friends and famous faces, the series will once again highlight the importance of blending into the outdoors to relax, recharge and re-connect along with breathing in nature,” the official synopsis tells us.
Among the guest stars in Season 2 will be much-loved Hexham-born actor Kevin Whately from Inspector Morse and Lewis!
Other familiar faces will include Paralympic athlete Tanni Grey Thompson and footballer Shola Ameobi – plus the return of Robson’s Uncle Matheson!
The second season of Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes is expected to premiere on BBC Two and streaming on BBC iPlayer later this year or in early 2024.
Before then, Robson Green will be back on our screens in brand new Grantchester as Geordie finds himself in “unfamiliar, emotional waters”.
The crime drama’s eighth season is set to premiere this summer on ITV and PBS.
Grantchester is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
