‘Sanditon’ preview: 5 brand new official pics released for Season 2

The makers of Sanditon have unveiled a beautiful set of photos from the new season!

Season 2 finally began filming this summer.

Based on Jane Austen’s unfinished final novel, ITV’s period drama series premiered in 2019, but was cancelled in 2020 despite Season 1 ending on a cliffhanger.

Luckily, following an amazing campaign from Sanditon fans, the show was renewed for another two seasons earlier this year.

Production is still underway in Bristol, England, but our first look at the new episodes has been officially released today with a gallery of images.

Here we have a glimpse of heroine Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams) as she returns to the picturesque coastal resort:

Next, there’s a shot of Charlotte taking up the role of governess to Augusta Wilson (Eloise Webb).

At the age of 17, Alexander Colbourne’s ward and niece “pushes against authority and soon gives Charlotte a run for her money”:

Season 2 will see Charlotte’s spirited younger sister, Alison Heywood (Rosie Graham), come to Sanditon to pursue her own romantic dream.

Fans have been promised “new romances, friendships and challenges for the residents as the Army make Sanditon their new base.”

Here’s a look at the returning Parkers, as Tom Parker (Kris Marshall) strives to rebuild Sanditon:

Tom Parker has “many unforeseen issues awaiting him,” however, while “the secrets and lies of the dysfunctional Denhams continue to rock the foundations of the sunny seaside town.”

Meanwhile, in her last summer season before turning 21, Georgiana Lambe (Crystal Clarke) is “keen to forge her own identity, getting up to mischief in the name of love… but will she run the risk of being lonelier than ever before?”

Dickensian writer Justin Young has taken over from Sanditon creator Andrew Davies as showrunner, with several new writers also announced, although Davies is still on board as an executive producer.

Theo James sadly isn’t returning as Sidney Parker.

However, fans do have six new regular cast members to look forward to, including a new love interest (or two) for Charlotte:

PBS also revealed the premiere date today, so you can get this in your 2022 diary!

We don’t have an exact UK launch date yet, but Season 2 will debut on BritBox in the UK, before airing on ITV.

Season 3 will then follow in 2023.
