‘Sanditon’ returning cast confirmed: Find out who’s back in Season 2
The makers of Sanditon have revealed which cast members will be back!
Following the first script read-through earlier in July, the new season began filming in England this week.
Based on Jane Austen’s unfinished final novel, Sanditon premiered in 2019 in the UK, then aired in the US last year.
The shock announcement that ITV’s period drama series had been renewed for another two seasons came this spring, despite the show being cancelled in 2020.
The celebration amongst the fans who had passionately campaigned for more Sanditon was slightly marred by the news that Theo James won’t return as Sidney.
The 36-year-old actor has explained his decision in May: “Although I relished playing Sidney, for me, I’ve always maintained that his journey concluded as I wanted it to.”
He added: “The broken fairy-tale like ending between Charlotte and Sidney is different, unique and so interesting to me and I wish the cast and crew of Sanditon every success with future series.”
Fortunately, it’s now been confirmed that most of the rest of Season 1’s main cast will be reprising their roles!
Joining Rose Williams as returning heroine Charlotte Heywood will be Crystal Clarke as Georgiana Lambe.
Kris Marshall (Death in Paradise) is back as Tom Parker, as are Turlough Convery as Arthur Parker, and Kate Ashfield as Mary Parker.
Anne Reid (Last Tango in Halifax) and Charlotte Spencer will return as Lady Denham and Esther Denham, alongside Jack Fox as Sir Edward Denham.
Also returning are Lily Sacofsky as Clara Brereton, Kevin Eldon as Mr. Hankins, and Adrian Scarborough as Dr. Fuchs.
Sadly, it looks like Leo Suter won’t be back as Young Stringer.
The former Victoria star is currently busy shooting Netflix’s new Vikings spin-off series Valhalla.
We’re expecting Season 2 to premiere in early 2022 on BritBox in the UK, before airing on ITV, and it’ll be shown on PBS Masterpiece in the US.
Season 3 is likely to follow in 2023.
While we wait, fans can enjoy The World of Sanditon: The Official Companion, a stunning book providing an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of the show.
Sanditon is available on DVD on Amazon.
