‘SAS Rogue Heroes’ adds stars from ‘Midsomer Murders’ and ‘Happy Valley’
Several new cast members have been revealed for SAS Rogue Heroes!
MGM+ and BBC One’s action-packed series about the origins of the world’s greatest Special Forces unit began shooting its second season earlier this month.
Based on Ben Macintyre’s book Rogue Heroes, the hit World War II drama debuted in October 2022.
The series was swiftly renewed by the BBC after it pulled in over 9 million viewers in the UK and attracted positive reviews from critics.
If you missed it last year, Season 1 is still streaming on BBC iPlayer, and American viewers can catch up with a free 7-day trial of MGM+ here.
“It’s so good to be back in the wild world of the SAS so soon,” said creator Steven Knight when production kicked off recently.
“The second chapter is even more incredible than the first and we hope to do justice to the brave men and women whose story we are telling,” the Peaky Blinders writer teased.
We’ve already heard which Season 1 characters will be back, and now we’ve got details of the newcomers we’ll see in Season 2 and who they’re playing.
First up, Gwilym Lee has been announced as Bill Stirling, founder of the 2SAS regiment and brother of Connor Swindells’ character David Stirling.
The 39-year-old actor is best known for his role in DS Charlie Nelson in several seasons of Midsomer Murders.
You’ll also recognise him from The Great, Jamestown, and Bohemian Rhapsody, in which he played Queen guitarist Brian May.
Mark Rowley (The Last Kingdom, The North Water) and Jack Barton (Heartstopper, War of the Worlds) will play SAS members Jock McDiarmid and John Tonkin.
Happy Valley actor Con O’Neill will be playing General Montgomery.
O’Neill has previously appeared in the likes of Our Flag Means Death, Heartbeat, Wallander, Harlots, and – most recently – Helena Bonham Carter drama Nolly.
Other new cast members will include Paolo De Vita (Anonymous), Anna Manuelli (Blocco 181), Edward Bennett (Industry), and Matteo Franco.
SAS Rogue Heroes will continue filming in the UK and Croatia through the summer.
The six new 60-minute episodes are expected to premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK later this year, or in early 2024.
Season 2 will drop in the US on MGM+ around the same time.
