‘Sister Boniface Mysteries’ will be back for a third season

Filming is underway on another season of Sister Boniface Mysteries!

A spin-off from Father Brown set in the 1960s, the murder-mystery drama launched in 2022.

The light-hearted crime series follows the crime-solving adventures of nun, moped rider, wine maker and part-time forensic scientist, Sister Boniface.

Season 2 premiered earlier this year, becoming the highest rated show of 2023 so far on UKTV’s Drama channel with 1.3m viewers.

It’s no big surprise then to report that BritBox and UKTV have ordered a third season.

They’ve also commissioned the show’s first Christmas special.

“We are so excited to see our brilliant Vespa-riding nun return for more crime solving,” revealed Emma Ayech, Channel Director for Drama.

“It’s fantastic to be giving our audience the gift of a brand new, feature-length episode this Christmas.”

When’s the release date?

Sister Boniface Mysteries will return with an extended festive episode in December on the Drama channel in the UK.

It’ll be streaming on BritBox in the US, South Africa, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

Season 3 will then follow in early 2024.

“Playing Sister Boniface is a dream, as is filming in the Cotswolds so I’m thrilled to be back for another series,” commented Sister Boniface actress Lorna Watson.

“I can’t wait to get the team back together, jump on the Vespa and see what crimes there are to solve in series three!” she added.

“Over the last two series Sister Boniface Mysteries has developed an enthusiastic and dedicated following both in the UK and internationally so we’re delighted to be bringing her back for a third series,” said executive producer Neil Irvine.

“One thing’s for sure, if there’s evidence to be found, Sister Boniface will find it,” he teased.

The Sister Boniface boss has confirmed the return of Max Brown as DI Sam Gillespie, alongside Jerry Iwu as DS Felix Livingstone, and Ami Metcalf as WPC Peggy Button.

Fans can also look forward to an eleventh season of Father Brown in 2024 too!

Based on the classic stories by GK Chesterton, the long-running crime drama celebrated its tenth anniversary last year.

Sister Boniface Mysteries is available to watch on BritBox.
