‘All Creatures Great and Small’ Season 3 just got a bit closer
The third season of All Creatures Great and Small has started filming!
Channel 5’s hit revival is based on author James Herriot’s much-loved collection of stories.
The cosy period drama follows the heartwarming and humorous adventures of a young country vet in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1930s.
It’s become the channel’s biggest original drama series since it premiered to wide acclaim in 2020.
All Creatures Great and Small returned in the UK last autumn, averaging an impressive 4.1 million viewers, and Season 2 aired in the US on Sunday nights on PBS earlier this year.
Following the huge popularity of the latest episodes, PBS and Channel 5 announced some wonderful news in January.
Not only has the show been renewed for a third season, they’ve also confirmed a fourth season too!
With six episodes in each season again, and Christmas specials for 2022 and 2023 also on the way, that’s another 14 episodes to look forward to.
We can now reveal that Season 3 has officially begun production on location in Yorkshire, England, with Downton Abbey director Brian Percival back at the helm:
The announcement was made on the show’s official Twitter feed, with followers quick to react with their happiness at the news.
“So happy to see this! Best of luck to the cast and crew for an amazing filming of Series 3. I love this beautiful show!” wrote one fan, while another said: “Can you never stop? Sunday nights without you all are not the same.”
Another viewer replied: “Love this series so much, very faithful to the original. Terrific actors, and so heartwarming and humourous too, we need all that right now, a nice escape.”
We couldn’t agree more!
Jim Wight and Rosie Page – the children of author and veterinary surgeon James Alfred Wight, who wrote the stories under the pen name James Herriot – also shared their joy upon hearing about the show’s renewal.
They commented: “For many years the books of James Herriot have provided a source of comfort to tens of thousands of people worldwide at difficult times in their lives.
“With this recent adaptation of his books, a new generation has been introduced to the joys of the Herriot stories. We are delighted that there are to be at least two more series of All Creatures Great and Small, and we are especially pleased that the same excellent actors and producers are to be involved.”
Season 3 will premiere in the UK this autumn on Channel 5, before arriving in the US in early 2023 on PBS.
