Watch Mr Molesley actor recap the first ‘Downton Abbey’ movie in 4 minutes!
The second Downton movie is nearly here at last.
After a few disappointing delays, the much-anticipated Downton Abbey: A New Era will finally be released in cinemas this spring.
The new film follows the massive success of the first movie a few years ago, itself a continuation of ITV’s hit period drama series.
Set in 1928, the sequel’s story sees our beloved characters embark on a lavish trip to the South of France where they must uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess’ newly inherited villa.
Downton Abbey: A New Era arrives in UK cinemas on Friday 29th April, following into US theatres on Friday 20th May.
A complete guide to the international release dates around the world was also recently unveiled.
To get audiences ready for latest visit to the world of Downton Abbey, the show’s official Facebook page has shared a lovely video recapping the events of 2019’s first movie.
The four-minute video is hosted by English actor Kevin Doyle, best known as schoolteacher Mr Molesley.
He asks: “Do you recall what happened last at Downton? If not, no problem – here’s something fun to jog your memory…”
Watch the recap here:
Teasing what lies ahead in the new movie, Doyle hints: “As Downton Abbey hurtles towards the 1930s, she marches into uncertain time, where old traditions may be set aside for the new.”
He concludes ominously: “For the Crawleys and their servants, the future is hard to predict – but whatever obstacles or challenges they may face, as has been shown time and time again, they’ll stand strong and proudly, and face them together.”
You can also watch Jim Carter and Phyllis Logan (aka Mr Carson and Mrs Hughes) recapping all six seasons of the TV series in just ten minutes!
Lesley Nicol, who plays cook Mrs Patmore, recently told Entertainment Weekly that Downton Abbey: A New Era is “absolutely jam-packed full of stuff.”
She hinted: “There’s so much going on. I mean, it’s funny. I laughed out loud a lot. There’s stuff that made me cry because there’s some romance and stuff you don’t expect.”
Nicol added: “I suppose that’s what I also love about it. I mean, I know what happens, but there’ll be stuff that the audience couldn’t possibly foresee.”
