‘Gentleman Jack’ Season 1 in eight minutes: Watch a recap of the story so far!

Three years after it first launched, Gentleman Jack is back!

Set in Halifax, West Yorkshire in 1832, the BBC’s hit period drama series is based on the real life diaries of Anne Lister.

Gentleman Jack premiered way back in April 2019 to critical acclaim, becoming the most successful launch for a new BBC drama that year.

Despite being swiftly renewed for another season just days after the show debuted, filming was heavily delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Season 2 is finally airing right now on BBC One on Sunday nights in the UK, and on HBO on Monday nights in the US.

Suranne Jones (Vigil) and Sophie Rundle (Peaky Blinders) are both reprising their roles as Anne Lister and Ann Walker in eight new hour-long episodes.

They’re joined by Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones) as Marian Lister, Gemma Jones (Last Tango in Halifax) as Aunt Anne Lister, and Timothy West (EastEnders) as Jeremy Lister, with The Larkins star Joanna Scanlan playing Anne Lister’s outrageous former lover, Isabella ‘Tib’ Norcliffe.

After such a long gap between seasons, however, fans can be forgiven for feeling a bit rusty on the details of what happened previously.

Fortunately, HBO has posted a great little catch-up on YouTube!

Recapping all the major story lines from last season in just over eight minutes, the official video sees the main cast remind us who’s who and where we left things in the Season 1 finale:

If you’ve missed the start of Season 2, or want to rewatch the whole first season again before you begin the new episodes, then don’t worry.

UK viewers can catch up on BBC iPlayer, while US fans can stream the show on HBO Max.

We’ve no word yet on a third season of Gentleman Jack, but with more brilliant reviews this time around, we’d be surprised if there wasn’t a renewal announcement from the BBC and HBO very soon.

Gentleman Jack is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
