ITV finally confirms ‘Grantchester’ return date for Season 8
We’ve got a premiere date for the latest season of Grantchester!
Nearly two years after the 1950s crime drama’s seventh run began in March 2022, ITV have at last revealed when Season 8 will air in the UK.
It’s been a bizarrely long wait for the new episodes to arrive on British screens, with the eighth season having already been shown in the US over the summer.
Grantchester was originally announced as returning in the UK last March, but ITV pulled Season 8 from the schedule fairly last-minute and there had been no news on when it might air since then – until now…
The new season of Grantchester finds Will at the happiest he’s ever been, but his world is soon rocked by a terrible accident that leads him on a dangerous downward spiral.
Meanwhile, Geordie and Cathy are content in their, until the pair’s happiness is threatened by shocking announcements at work.
Fortunately, Mrs. C, Leonard, Jack and Daniel are on hand to rally around, as Will and Geordie find themselves in unfamiliar, emotional waters.
When’s the release date?
Season 8 begins at 9pm on Thursday 11 January 2024 on ITV1.
The six brand new episodes will air weekly on Thursday nights, and they’ll also be streaming as a box set on ITVX.
Looking forward, the Grantchester cast have already finished filming the next season.
Big changes are on the way in Season 9, with Tom Brittney departing the series after five years playing Reverend Will Davenport.
Robson Green, returning as Geordie, will be joined by Rishi Nair (New Tricks, Whitstable Pearl) as the show’s next vicar Alphy Kotteram.
And don’t worry, the rest of the regular cast are all reprising their roles too.
We’re told that Alphy initially has “absolutely no desire to get involved in murder investigations,” but we’ve got a feeling he’ll change his mind on that rather quickly.
Also back in January is Robson Green’s lovely Weekend Escapes series with a second season!
Grantchester is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
