PBS confirms 2023 premiere dates for Masterpiece Mystery crime dramas

Several of our favourite British police series are returning in the US later this year!

Continuing their popular Masterpiece Mystery strand, PBS will be bringing American viewers the brand new seasons of five hit crime dramas from the UK.

The final episode of Endeavour airs next weekend, but don’t fret, as murder mystery fans have plenty to look forward to in the second half of 2023.

First up there’s the new season of Grantchester, which it now looks very likely will premiere in the US before the UK for the first time ever as ITV still hasn’t announced a launch date over here!

Premiering on Sunday 9 July at 9/8c on PBS Masterpiece, Season 8 sees Robson Green and Tom Brittney returning as DI Geordie Keating and Reverend Will Davenport.

It’s been teased that a terrible accident will rock Will’s world, while Geordie has found new contentment in his marriage with Cathy. As Mrs. C, Leonard, Jack, and Daniel rally around, both Will and Geordie find themselves in emotional waters while murder is always near at hand.

The end of summer will bring us a great double-bill from Sunday 3 September as the fifth season of Unforgotten and the third season of Van der Valk air back to back at 9/8c and 10/9c.

The new run of Unforgotten sees Sinéad Keenan (Being Human) debut as newcomer DCI Jessie James alongside Sanjeev Bhaskar as DI Sunil “Sunny” Khan. Determined to make a good first impression with colleagues, how will the ghost of her much-loved predecessor DCI Cassie Stuart inevitably haunt her?

Meanwhile, over in the Netherlands, Marc Warren (Beecham House) reprises his role as Amsterdam’s street-smart and unapologetic detective Piet Van der Valk.

Navigating the historic city’s canals and alleyways to solve utterly baffling crimes with inspired detection and astute human observation, he’s joined by Maimie McCoy (Wallander) as his right-hand detective Lucienne Hassell, and Emma Fielding (Sanditon) as their boss Julia Dahlman.

Then if you’ve been missing the wonderful Nicola Walker in Unforgotten, you can see her in the second season of Annika, beginning  Sunday 15 October at 10/9c.

Quirky speedboat-driving detective DI Annika Strandhed continues to lead her Glasgow Marine Homicide Unit on land and sea, while also herding a rebellious teenage daughter.

There was good news for Unforgotten fans earlier this year as ITV officially confirmed that the show will be returning for a sixth season in 2024!

Brand new episodes of Father Brown also landed on BritBox last week, if you’re looking for more British crime mysteries to solve.

Unforgotten is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
