Netflix confirms if ‘The Irregulars’ is getting a second season

We’ve got some disappointing news for fans of Netflix’s The Irregulars.

Set in Victorian London, the fantasy period drama series set in the world of Sherlock Holmes launched on Netflix in March.

The eight-part series followed a gang of troubled delinquent teens who are manipulated into solving crimes for the sinister Doctor Watson and his mysterious business partner.

The Irregulars received mostly decent reviews and was a hit with Netflix viewers, sitting comfortably in the streaming service’s Top 10 most-watched shows.

However, it’s now been revealed that it won’t be returning for a second season!

This is certainly something of a surprise, as The Irregulars even beat the viewing figures of Disney’s mega-hit The Falcon and the Winter Soldier last month.

It had previously been reported that new episodes were set to commence production this summer in Liverpool, England ahead of a 2022 premiere.

While we’re not sure exactly why Netflix has chosen not to renew the series, it’s worth noting that the ongoing coronavirus pandemic continues to affect production schedules around the world.

The Irregulars starred Indian Summers actor Henry Lloyd-Hughes as Sherlock Holmes, with Royce Pierreson (Judy) playing John Watson, and Aidan McArdle (The Fall) playing Inspector Lestrade.

The young cast included Thaddea Graham (Us) as Bea, Darci Shaw (Judy) as Jessie, Jojo Macari (Sex Education) as Billy, Mckell David (Snatch) as Spike, and Harrison Osterfield (Catch 22) as Leopold.

While the show wasn’t to everyone’s taste, critics were in agreement that the show had assembled a talented bunch of actors and we’re sure they’ll all go on to greater things.

On the positive side, Netflix announced last week that a second Enola Holmes movie is being made!

The sequel will see Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) return as Sherlock’s younger sister.

Netflix also has a Sherlock Junior series in the pipeline, featuring a young, modern day version of the detective.

The complete Sherlock box set is available on DVD on Amazon.
