‘All Creatures Great and Small’ hints at wedding bells as war looms in Season 3
We’ve got some brand new story details for the new season of All Creatures Great and Small!
Based on author James Herriot’s much-loved collection of stories, Channel 5’s hit drama series follows the heartwarming and humorous adventures of a young country vet in the Yorkshire Dales in the 1930s.
The show was renewed for a third and fourth season earlier this year, with filming resuming in Yorkshire back in March.
Yesterday the release date for Season 3 was announced, and now PBS has given fans some official hints about what’s ahead for all our favourite All Creatures Great and Small characters.
Watch the trailer here:
We’re told that “wedding bells chime and animal ailments abound” in Season 3, which will begin in the spring of 1939 as James and Helen prepare to walk down the aisle.
“Should their wedding go off without a hitch—and what are the chances of that?—James will have a new wife and a new stake in the business to think of. The pressure is on, and while his scheme to participate in the government’s practice to test for tuberculosis in cattle will expand the veterinary practice, it could put James on the outs with local farmers.”
There are “new challenges” for Helen too, “not least of them letting go of her old life and finding her new place within the welcoming, yet eccentric, embrace of Skeldale House.”
As for Tristan, “having passed his exams at long last, he must now face the world as a qualified vet. Will he rise to the occasion? And, more importantly, will he win big brother Siegfried’s approval?”
He’ll certainly have the unconditional support of Mrs. Hall, but in the third season “she may be ready to open up to affection beyond her work family…and cricket.”
With the new episodes being set in 1939, inevitably “war with Germany looms on the horizon,” and Siegfried must deal with “painful memories of his own experiences during the First World War, when he served in combat with the Army Veterinary Corps.”
Alongside all this emotional drama, luckily Mrs. Pumphrey will be back with her pampered Pekingese, Tricki!
Season 3 is expected to premiere in the UK on Channel 5 in September.
All Creatures Great and Small will then return in the US on Sunday nights on PBS early next year.
