Watch trailer for ‘Downton Abbey’ writer’s new period drama ‘The English Game’

Netflix has released the first trailer for The English Game.

The brand new six-part series is set in 1870s England and is written by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes.

Based on true events, this 19th century drama follows two footballers on opposite sides of a class divide who changed the game — and England — forever.

All six episodes of The English Game will be available to watch exclusively on Netflix from Friday 20th March.

The cast is led by Edward Holcroft (Wolf Hall) and Kevin Guthrie (Dunkirk), alongside Henry Lloyd Hughes (Parade’s End), Craig Parkinson (Indian Summers), Sam Keeley (In the Heart of the Sea), Joncie Elmore (Downton Abbey), Gerard Kearns (Shameless), Charlotte Hope (Game of Thrones), Kate Phillips (The Crown), Kate Dickie (Game of Thrones), Sylvestra Le Touzel (Titanic), Ben Batt (The Village), James Harkness (The Victim), and Niamh Walsh (Jamestown).

Also premiering this month is Julian Fellowes’ new ITV drama Belgravia.
